Morocco: Introduction

This introductory report provides a geographic, political, and demographic overview of the Kingdom of Morocco, detailing its territorial disputes, governance structure, and climate vulnerability.

• Morocco is the only African nation with both Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines, totaling 1,835 km, and the only African country sharing a land border with the European Union via the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla.
• Morocco is involved in a long-standing territorial dispute over Western Sahara, which it annexed in 1975. While Morocco views the area as an integral part of its territory and proposes limited autonomy for Sahrawis, the region is contested by the Polisario Front and Algeria.
