Accelerating Climate-Resilient Recovery 2020 2021 PROGRESS REPORT

The NAP Global Network 2020–2021 Progress Report details the activities of a network dedicated to supporting developing countries in formulating and implementing National Adaptation Plans (NAPs). During the reporting period (December 2020 to November 2021), the Network shifted toward providing rapid, short-term technical assistance via its Country Support Hub and focused on integrating gender, health, and finance into adaptation planning to accelerate climate-resilient recovery.

• The NAP Global Network experienced a significant surge in demand for short-term technical assistance through its Country Support Hub (CSH), with over 40 requests active at their peak, exceeding all previous years combined.
• The Network provided strategic support to 20 countries preparing their first Adaptation Communications (ADCOMs) to the UNFCCC, noting that most partner countries leveraged existing NAP processes to avoid creating parallel reporting systems.
• Analysis of NAP documents revealed a gap in the integration of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR); while health sector adaptation is prioritized, there has been limited attention to SRHR in overarching NAP documents.
• The Network identified that 90% of completed NAPs include references to insurance, though significant opportunities remain to further integrate and scale up climate and disaster risk finance and insurance (CDRFI) solutions.
• The Network implemented specific gender-responsive initiatives, including a partnership with Lensational to use photojournalism to amplify the voices of underrepresented women in the NAP processes of Ghana and Kenya.
• The Network's 2025 strategy prioritizes the transition from adaptation planning to implementation, the strengthening of monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) systems, and increased civil society engagement.
