Conducting Gender Analysis to Inform National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Processes: Reflections from six African countries

This briefing note outlines the rationale and approach used by the NAP Global Network since 2018 to support targeted gender analyses in six African countries to ensure climate change adaptation investments are effective, sustainable, and equitable.

• Since 2018, the NAP Global Network has supported six African countries—Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Guinea-Conakry, Madagascar, and Togo—in conducting targeted gender analyses to inform their National Adaptation Plan (NAP) processes, regardless of the specific stage of formulation or implementation they have reached.
• Analysis of NAPs submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) as of March 2023 shows that 98% mention gender, and about 50% identify women as agents of change in climate change adaptation.
