Sustainable Asset Valuation (SAVi) of Nature-Based Coastal Protection in the Netherlands

This document presents results from Sustainable Asset Valuation (SAVi) assessments of nature-based solutions. In the Netherlands, the Hondsbossche Dunes project was found to offer greater net benefits than a conventional sheet pile wall. Additionally, the text mentions that sustainable tourism in Geopark Teskei outperforms mass tourism and references a resilience assessment in the Dechatu River Catchment in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia.

• The Sustainable Asset Valuation (SAVi) assessment of the Hondsbossche Dunes project, which involves an artificial dune landscape stretching 7 kilometres along the Dutch North Sea coast, indicates that investing in artificial sand dunes provides higher net benefits across all flood scenarios compared to the grey infrastructure alternative of a sheet pile wall.
• Sustainable tourism within Geopark Teskei is found to produce significantly higher long-term returns when compared to conventional mass tourism.
