Engaging the education sector in the NAP process

This guidance note, developed by the International Institute for Sustainable Development in partnership with Save the Children, provides education ministries with a framework for integrating education priorities into the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process to enhance sector adaptation and community resilience.

• The education sector is characterized as being both highly susceptible to climate change impacts and essential for fostering community resilience and adaptive capacity. Consequently, the sector must adapt to climate risks that are projected to grow in complexity and become harder to manage.
• Integrating education into the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process offers three primary benefits: it raises the profile of education priorities, strengthens the justification for adaptation financing within the sector, and ensures sector plans are consistent with national climate commitments.
• The guidance note was created using a combination of case studies, a review of evidence and tools from the NAP Global Network and the Climate Smart Education Systems Initiative, and desk-based research.
