MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE DIRECTORATE OF THE INTER-AMERICAN INSTITUTE FOR GLOBAL CHANGE RESEARCH AND THE DEGREES INITIATIVE

The IAI and the Degrees Initiative have entered into a cooperation agreement effective until December 31, 2025, focusing on solar radiation modification (SRM). The partnership aims to enhance institutional capacities in the Americas through joint scientific programs, information dissemination, and the empowerment of Global South scientists to evaluate SRM. The agreement outlines mechanisms for bilateral meetings, fundraising, and intellectual property management, while specifying that any specific projects involving fund transfers will require separate legal instruments.

• The primary objective of the Degrees Initiative is to increase the ability of developing countries to assess solar radiation modification (SRM) through engagement workshops in the Global South, community building, and the Degrees Modelling Fund.
• The IAI Directorate will support the Degrees Initiative by disseminating information to IAI Parties, establishing joint SRM capacity building and scientific programs in the Americas, and fostering cooperation between universities in the Americas and those in the Degrees Initiative's programs.
• The Degrees Initiative will support the IAI by sharing updates and outputs from SRM research, disseminating IAI work programs to its network in the Americas, and supporting outreach workshops and scientific research across the region.
• The agreement is effective from May 31, 2023, and is scheduled to remain in force until December 31, 2025, unless terminated earlier with three months' written notice.
• The Parties agree that any specific activities, projects, or programs resulting from this MOU that involve the transfer of funds must be governed by a separate, appropriate legal instrument.
