Declaración de las Partes y los Asociados del IAI sobre Seguridad Hídrica, Biodiversidad y Resiliencia Climática en las Américas

A statement issued by the Parties and Associates of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) during its 33rd Conference of the Parties in Asunción, Paraguay, in May 2025. • While 69% of energy in Latin America and the Caribbean comes from renewable sources according to a 2024 WMO report, droughts and extreme weather pose risks to the energy transition, specifically regarding energy sustainability and hydroelectric power generation.
• The signatories commit to strengthening regional early warning and response systems for extreme events by applying transdisciplinary science across meteorology, hydrology, economics, and social sciences to benefit sectors such as energy, transport, health, and agriculture.
• The document emphasizes the need to implement the UN 'Early Warnings for All' (EW4All) initiative in the Americas by 2027, which requires regional cooperation, institutional strengthening, and the integration of local and scientific knowledge.
• The IAI and its associates pledge to promote scientific diplomacy, the exchange of open and interoperable meteorological and hydrological data, and the mobilization of financial and non-financial resources to support empirical data-based public policies at national and subnational levels.
