Twenty-Fifth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP) of the IAI

This document is a compilation of action lists and decisions from the 4th through the 25th meetings of the Conference of the Parties (CoP) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), spanning from 1997 to 2017. It records the governance, financial approvals, and administrative elections of the institute, including the appointment of Directors, the establishment of advisory committees, and the approval of annual budgets and scientific programs.

• At the 25th CoP in June 2017, the IAI Directorate was instructed to create an open data policy and principles, as well as long-term strategies for communication and funding, to be presented at the subsequent meeting.
• The IAI established a Tripartite Structure for its Directorate, with an Implementation Committee consisting of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Uruguay, and the United States, with the US serving as Chair and Ecuador as Vice-Chair.
• The CoP created two primary advisory bodies: the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Science-Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC), the latter of which was established to advise on the design of science for policy and decision-making.
• The IAI has consistently approved its Core Budget Requests and maintained levels of country contributions across multiple fiscal years, including the 2017-2018 period.
• In 2014, the CoP decided to issue a statement to the UNFCCC CoP-20 emphasizing that global change adaptation is critical for Latin America and must be integrated into international decision-making based on science and technology.
• The IAI has expanded its institutional network by accepting Associate Institutions, such as FAPESP in 2014, and CATHALAC and CIESIN in 2000.
• The CoP amended the Agreement Establishing the IAI in 1999 to modify financial provisions, setting a minimum annual voluntary contribution of US$ 5,000 in increments of US$ 1,000.
• The IAI has engaged in international scientific initiatives, including endorsing participation in Future Earth and working toward a consortium with UNESCO and ICSU-ROLAC.
