¿Qué es el IAI? Respondiendo al Desafío

The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) is an intergovernmental organization established in 1992 to improve the understanding of global environmental change in the Americas and provide scientific data to policymakers. With 19 member countries, the IAI focuses on a dynamic scientific agenda including climate variability and comparative ecosystem studies.

• The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) is an intergovernmental organization with a dual objective: to improve the understanding of global environmental change and its socioeconomic implications in the Americas, and to provide member countries' policymakers and decision-makers with robust scientific information to develop appropriate plans and actions.
• The IAI was established following a call from world leaders at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The goal was to create an international entity with a regional focus to conduct multinational cooperative research and produce scientific information that individual countries could not generate alone.
• The IAI was formally established on May 13, 1992, in Montevideo, Uruguay, initially signed by sixteen countries. It currently has 19 member countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, United States of America, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
