¿Qué es el IAI? Respondiendo al Desafío

The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) is an intergovernmental entity established in 1992 to improve the understanding of global environmental change and its socioeconomic implications in the Americas. It provides scientific information to policymakers in its 19 member countries to support the development of adaptation plans. The IAI's scientific agenda focuses on climate variability, regional climate change, and comparative studies of ecosystems, biodiversity, and water resources across tropical, temperate, and cold latitudes.

• The institute's primary objectives are to enhance the understanding of global environmental change and its socioeconomic impacts in the Americas and to provide member countries' decision-makers with robust scientific data for planning and action.
• The IAI currently consists of 19 member countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, United States of America, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
• A core component of the IAI's scientific agenda is the observation and prediction of climate variability and change in the Americas, specifically focusing on ocean-land-atmosphere interactions and their social impacts.
• The IAI promotes integrated comparative analyses of how global environmental change affects natural and anthropogenic systems across tropical, temperate, and cold latitudes, with a focus on food security and biodiversity.
