Minutas de la Vigésima Novena Reunión del Consejo Ejecutivo (CE) del IAI

Minutes from the 29th Meeting of the Executive Council (EC) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), held on June 8, 2010, in Brasilia, Brazil. • The IAI is seeking to evolve its scientific approach from a purely 'bottom-up' open call system to one that better integrates science with policy, specifically by involving decision-makers from the start of projects.
• The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) identified four priority areas for evaluation: Climate Sciences (climate modeling), Ecosystems and Climate (biodiversity), Political and Human Dimensions of Climate Change (vulnerability, mitigation, adaptation, and science-policy interaction), and Integration and Modeling (resilience and social-ecological systems).
• Relations with the host country, Brazil, are complicated by legal issues regarding the outsourcing of personnel and the Host Country Agreement, which currently results in the IAI paying more in income tax and social security for Brazilian staff than Brazil contributes to the IAI.
• The IAI reported a failure in member country engagement, noting that almost none of the actions from the previous two Executive Council meetings regarding the intensification of contacts with member countries were fulfilled.
