Concept note: IAI Regional Assessment IAI Strategic Plan

The IAI is launching a Regional Assessment to map the global change policy and decision-making landscapes of its member countries. By identifying specific decisions impacted by global environmental change (GEC) where science information is lacking, the IAI aims to align its research funding and collaboration efforts with the actual needs of the Parties. The process involves scoping workshops, electronic surveys, and interviews, with a final report expected by May 2022.

• The Regional Assessment seeks to identify knowledge gaps and uncertainties related to decisions impacted by global environmental change (GEC) across sectors such as climate, energy, water, health, and agriculture, without investigating the decision-making process itself.
• The outcomes of the assessment will be used to determine IAI science funding priorities, guide capacity building, and facilitate collaboration between member countries with similar information needs.
• The assessment methodology consists of a four-step approach: scoping workshops with scientists and stakeholders, the distribution of an electronic survey template to all Parties, follow-up interviews with a subset of Parties, and data analysis to map commonalities and divergences.
• The project timeline spans from May 2021 to June 2022, with the survey distribution scheduled for September 2021 and the final results to be presented at CoP-30 in June 2022.
