Informe de la Dirección Ejecutiva del IAI a la Vigésima cuarta Conferencia de las Partes

This science report from the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) details the outcomes of the Small Grants for Cooperative Research in the Americas (SGP-CRA) and the Third Cooperative Research Networks program (CRN3) between June 2015 and May 2016. Other outcomes include real-time hurricane forecasting models for Baja California and a coastal risk reduction decision tool covering 25 Caribbean countries.
• The Third Cooperative Research Networks program (CRN3), running from November 2012 to 2018, consists of 17 international multidisciplinary research networks involving 17 PIs, 95 co-investigators, and 90 institutions from 15 IAI member countries. The program has provided US$ 929,198 in student scholarships and secured US$ 23.5 million in complementary funds.
• CRN3 has advanced interdisciplinary science by integrating social science tools to analyze actor relationships with ecosystem services and using agent-based modeling to simulate the spread of diseases like malaria, dengue, and leishmaniasis (CRN3036).
• CRN3 projects have produced practical policy outcomes, such as the reopening of the yellow clam fishery in Rocha, Uruguay, after a decade-long ban, and the creation of institutional spaces for climate service alliances among national meteorological services in five South American countries.
• In 2015, the CONICET-IAI partnership established a US$ 200,000 fund to support seven selected projects in Argentina focusing on marine, atmospheric, and terrestrial themes related to global change.
• The IAI is promoting the Inter-American Forum for Global Change Research Cooperation to create a multilateral funding mechanism. The agreement text was developed by the IAI and Argentina's CONICET and reviewed by FAPESP in São Paulo State.
