Urgent vacancies in SAC membership

The IAI Science Advisory Committee (SAC) has alerted the Executive Council and Conference of the Parties (CoP) to a critical membership shortage. With six vacancies opening in June 2013 and three more in 2014, the SAC faces a near-complete turnover of membership. The committee is seeking highly qualified scientists with expertise in natural sciences, social sciences, and public health to provide credibility and guidance for the Collaborative Research Network (CRN) programs over the next five years.

• The IAI Science Advisory Committee (SAC) will face a significant membership turnover, with six vacancies opening in June 2013 and an additional three members rotating off in 2014, potentially leading to an almost complete substitution of membership within 14 months.
• The SAC is currently understaffed, with only 8 members, which is 2 members short of its full membership capacity.
• The SAC seeks new appointments that balance expertise across natural sciences, social sciences, and public health to support the Collaborative Research Network (CRN) programs, which are designed to address the science needs of the continent for the next five years.
• The SAC has established specific criteria for new nominees, requiring high academic and research excellence, a doctorate or equivalent experience, and a proven record of managing international scientific projects relevant to IAI strategic areas.
