Minutas de la CoP-XVI

The document contains the minutes of the 16th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP-XVI) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), held in Bogotá, Colombia, on May 19-20, 2009. • Brazil reported a goal to progressively reduce Amazon deforestation from approximately 12,000 km² to 6,000 km² by 2017. The country also noted that deforestation was reduced by half between 2004 and 2008.
• Mexico established a target to reduce its emissions by 50% by the year 2050, relative to levels recorded in the year 2000.
• Costa Rica aims to become a carbon-neutral country by 2021, coinciding with its bicentennial of independence.
• The United States expressed a commitment to reduce carbon emissions by more than 80% by the year 2050.
• The IAI's Collaborative Research Network (CRN) II program achieved 5.5 million dollars in funding during its first two years, resulting in 108 peer-reviewed journal articles and 28 books or book chapters.
