A Procurement Manual is also being finalized with the help of the Committee on Financial and Administrative Matters to standardize acquisition processes.
• The IAI is intensifying cooperation with Argentina, Brazil, and Canada starting in 2006. In Brazil, a partnership with the Center for Weather Forecasting and Climate Studies (CPTEC) and the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) will provide co-funded internships for member country scientists, with estimated costs of US$ 6K per participant for IAI and US$ 20K for CPTEC.
• Capacity building efforts include 'seed grants' co-funded by agencies such as the NSF (US$ 330K), IDRC (US$ 30K), WMO (US$ 15K), START/AIACC (US$ 5K), and IHDP (US$ 5K). Planned training institutes for 2006-08 will focus on disaster risk reduction, climate variability impacts on socio-economic sectors, and the science-policy interface.
• The IAI is upgrading its information technology to support scientific activities, including the maintenance of the Data Information System (DIS) and its integration with a system at Florida International University. The electronic submission system, first used for the Small Grants Program (SGP II) in 2003, will be expanded to include project reports and training institute registrations.
