Fortaleciendo el alcance y participación de las partes del Instituto Interamericano para la Investigación del Cambio Global (IAI) desde el corazón de América: Panamá

A proposal by the National Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation (SENACYT) of Panama to the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) to relocate its Executive Directorate to Panama City, specifically within the City of Knowledge (Ciudad del Saber).

• Panama proposes to host the IAI Executive Directorate to leverage its strategic location as a hub between North America, South America, and the Caribbean, aiming to increase IAI participation in Central America and the Caribbean where 16 of the 35 American countries are currently non-members.

• Panama highlights its environmental leadership as a 'carbon negative' country, having signed the 'Carbon Negative Countries Declaration' in 2021. It maintains over 30% of its territory as protected areas and 54.3% of its exclusive economic zone as marine areas.
• The proposal specifies that the relocation to Panama will not alter the existing governance structure of the IAI, which includes the Conference of the Parties, the Executive Council, the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), and the Science and Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC).
