Banners to Bags

The Western Cape Industrial Symbiosis Programme (WISP) connected Scan Display, a marketing company, with Sealand Gear, a bag manufacturer, to divert textile waste from landfills. Since October 2015, Scan Display has supplied 2 tonnes of polytwirl material annually to Sealand Gear, resulting in 54 tonnes of avoided CO2 emissions per year and significant cost savings for both companies.

• The partnership between Scan Display and Sealand Gear diverts 2 tonnes (approximately 13,500m2) of polytwirl material from landfills every year.
• The diversion of these materials results in an annual reduction of 54 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
• The industrial symbiosis provides economic benefits, including an estimated R270,000 annual saving for Sealand Gear by avoiding the purchase of new polytwirl material and approximately R900 annual savings for Scan Display on landfill gate fees.
