My Report Title

This document consists of appendices to a report by GreenCape, detailing stakeholder engagement records, workshop structures and outcomes, and technical data regarding water requirements and economic values in the Berg Water Management Area (WMA) of the Western Cape.

• The project conducted extensive stakeholder engagement between June 2015 and October 2017, involving various government departments, municipalities, academic institutions, and private industry to align project information and test decision-making tools.
• A June 2016 'Testing Tools' workshop focused on verifying research findings and mapping decision-making processes for water allocation, water resource and services development, and development planning to ensure tools met the challenges identified by decision-makers.
• The June 2017 'Supporting Decisions' workshop indicated a shift in stakeholder perception, with an increasing acceptance that water and economic development must be planned together rather than in isolation.
• Stakeholders identified the Western Cape Government’s Sustainable Water Management Plan (SWMP) forum as a suitable vehicle for integrated water and economic development coordination, though it requires improved relations with Local Municipalities and the Department of Water and Sanitation.
• The project estimated the marginal value of water for various crops, finding that peaches (4.84), tomatoes (4.78), and table grapes (4.36) had the highest overall mean marginal values, while wheat (0.14) had the lowest.
• Analysis of water-intensive industries in 2015 showed that Bergrivier had the highest percentage of its economy (41%) and jobs (43%) in heavily water-intensive sectors, while the City of Cape Town had the lowest at 8% of its economy and 4% of its jobs.
• Future water requirement forecasts for 2025 and 2040 indicate significant growth in total demand across the Berg WMA, with total requirements projected to rise from 1,081,134,300 m3 in 2025 to 1,246,972,594 m3 in 2040.
