Adoption is driven by the 82% decrease in global average Li-ion battery costs since 2013 and the ability to perform 'value stacking', such as peak-lopping and tariff optimisation.
• Grid congestion in the Western Cape is a major barrier to large-scale projects, but Eskom's proposal to use curtailment as a management mechanism could unlock 2 680 MW of grid capacity. Additionally, Eskom's Transmission Development Plan (2025-2034) aims to connect 56 GW of new generation nationally over 10 years, with a focus on the Cape regions.
