UNFCCC COP 25 Outcome Document Roundtable: “Resilience” Accelerating action to build a resilient 1.5-degree world

This document summarizes the outcomes of the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action (MPGCA) Resilience Roundtable held on December 10, 2019, during UNFCCC COP 25 in Madrid. • Resilience for people and communities depends on aligning national plans with sub-national and local plans within the NDC process, empowering youth, ensuring gender-responsive actions, and improving access to agro-climatic and disaster risk information systems.
• Environmental resilience should be pursued through the protection of biodiversity, the scaling of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to restore ecosystems, and the development of responsible sourcing standards to prevent further degradation.
• The document highlights several specific ongoing resilience actions, including the Natural Disaster Fund (NDF) to close the insurance gap in poor countries (where only 5% of losses are covered compared to 50% in high-income countries), and the Insuresilience Global Partnership Vision 2025, which aims to provide an additional safety net for 500 million people.
• Other notable initiatives include the CRAFT Climate Resilient Solutions Fund, the first investment fund dedicated to adaptation and resilience solutions for private companies in developing countries, and the 'Views from the Frontline 2019' process, which has collected data from 100,000 individuals across 50 countries.
