An Open Letter to Our Partners

An open letter from the Global Resilience Partnership (GRP) to its partners detailing joint accomplishments in 2021, focusing on scaling resilience innovations, promoting shared learning, and convening diverse voices to influence global policy and investment.

• The Global Resilience Partnership (GRP) co-hosted the Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA), which launched six projects to reduce ocean risk and build coastal resilience in vulnerable countries. This included the Ocean Resilience Innovation Challenge (ORIC), where four winning applications received seven months of mentoring and participated in a Leadership Academy. ORRAA also published reports on the risk landscape of the ocean economy and gender dynamics of ocean risk in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
• GRP collaborated with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to support innovative finance for resilience in fragile and conflict-prone regions. Two organizations, located in Uganda and Sudan, were shortlisted for three-year support consisting of capacity building, mentoring, and grants ranging from $200,000 to $300,000.
• At COP26, GRP launched the Innovating for Climate Resilience Fund with the Adaptation Research Alliance and the Global Innovation Fund, receiving seed funding from the UK's Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office. The fund targets innovations that help people living on less than $5 per day build adaptation and resilience to stresses and shocks.
• GRP established several knowledge-sharing and capacity-building initiatives, including the Resilience Knowledge Coalition, which has nearly 500 members from over 150 institutions. Other efforts include the Global South Talent Pool internship programme launched in June 2021 and the creation of a content series with the UN Officer for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) focusing on drought resilience and moving from risk to resilience.
• To amplify leadership in LDCs and SIDS, GRP launched three South to South Resilience Academies (S2SRA's) in the Caribbean, South Asia, and Southern Africa. These include the Climate Resilience Academy for LDCs (CRAL) and the Southern African Resilience Academy (SARA), which focused on the future of food in Southern Africa. A third academy focusing on health and climate change in vulnerable demographics is scheduled to begin in 2022 via the University of West Indies.
