End of Year Letter to our Partners and Collaborators

The Global Resilience Partnership (GRP) reports on its 2022 efforts to bridge funding and measurement gaps in climate resilience. Key activities include the Innovative Finance for Resilience initiative in Uganda and Sudan, the RAIN Challenge for agriculture in East Africa, and the launch of the PREPARE Call to Action for the private sector at COP27. The GRP also coordinated the COP Resilience Hub, which engaged 15,000 people, and advanced South-to-South Resilience Academies focusing on food systems in southern Africa and Loss and Damage in South Asia.

• The GRP manages several targeted resilience initiatives, including the Innovative Finance for Resilience project providing small-scale farmers in Uganda and Sudan with access to fairly-priced loans, and the Resilient Agriculture Innovations for Nature (RAIN) Challenge aimed at entrepreneurs in East Africa.
• At COP27, the GRP, USAID, and the U.S. Presidential Envoy for Climate launched the PREPARE Call to Action, which has been joined by ten private sector companies: Google, Gro Intelligence, Marsh McLennan, Mastercard, Meta, Microsoft, Pegasus Capital Advisors, PepsicCo., WTW, and SAP.
• The GRP operates South-to-South Resilience Academies that utilize transdisciplinary teams from the Global South; in 2022, the Southern African academy focused on food systems transformations and the South Asian academy focused on Loss and Damage.
• The COP Resilience Hub served as a central mobilization point during COP27, engaging over 10,000 in-person and 5,000 online participants to increase ambition and investment in climate adaptation and resilience.
• The GRP is diversifying its organizational structure to be more southern-led, which includes appointing a chair and deputy chair of its Advisory Council from Global South organizations and registering as a non-profit in South Africa.
