FSD Africa’s partnership with DFI

FSD Africa co-funded the Digital Frontiers Institute (DFI) from 2016 to 2021 to train digital finance professionals in low-middle income countries. The partnership established the Certified Digital Finance Practitioner (CDFP) qualification and reached over 15,000 professionals. Key achievements include the creation of 22 Communities of Practice across 20 countries and the development of 47 DFS regulations, policies, or directives.

• The partnership aimed to close the digital finance skills gap in low-middle income countries to improve the efficiency and inclusivity of financial services. This was achieved through the expansion of foundation courses, the training of 3,000 DFS professionals (including partial scholarships), and the coordination of a league of 5,000 DFS professionals.
• The collaboration led to the creation of the Certified Digital Finance Practitioner (CDFP), which is certified by the Fletcher School at Tufts University and consists of two foundation courses and 19 specialisations.
• Between 2016 and 2021, the initiative reached over 15,000 professionals and established 22 Communities of Practice (CoPs) across 20 countries. These CoPs held 1,078 meetings and 42 webinars to facilitate knowledge sharing and in-country coordination.
• The program's impact includes the development of 47 DFS regulations, policies, or directives and the creation of 1,200 knowledge bank resources. Participation rates included 34.9% female and 28.5% public sector involvement.
• In 2021, the Alliance of Digital Finance Associations was launched to provide a regional or global body to support national associations of digital finance professionals in their advocacy and innovation efforts.
