Carbon Market Watch at COP22 in Marrakech

Carbon Market Watch provides a set of recommendations for the rules of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement to be discussed at COP22. • Environmental integrity in carbon markets requires a robust accounting framework to prevent double counting across NDC compliance, cooperative approaches, the SDM, and international civil aviation, while ensuring credits are real, permanent, additional, and verified.
• Carbon Market Watch recommends that the SDM monitor and report co-benefits toward UN Sustainable Development Goals, use trading proceeds from Cooperative Approaches for adaptation and sustainable development, and implement safeguards, stakeholder consultations, and grievance processes to protect human rights.
