FAST-Infra Sustainable Infrastructure Label: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The FAST-Infra Sustainable Infrastructure Label (SI Label) is a self-declared sustainability certification for infrastructure assets. It is based on a mapping of over 25 global standards, including the IFC Performance Standards and the EU Green Taxonomy. To achieve the label, assets must meet 14 baseline requirements across four sustainability dimensions, comply with minimum safeguards, and demonstrate a positive contribution to at least one sustainability criterion. While the label is sector-agnostic, fossil fuel projects, including unabated natural gas, are unlikely to qualify due to a carbon threshold of <100g CO2e/kWh. The framework encourages external third-party verification to enhance transparency and market trust.

• The SI Label's sustainability criteria were developed by mapping more than 25 leading market standards, frameworks, and principles. These include the EU Green Taxonomy, the IFC Performance Standards, the G20 Principles for Quality Infrastructure Investment (QII), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Climate Bond Initiative’s (CBI) Climate Bond Standards.
• To obtain the SI Label, an asset must satisfy four specific requirements: consider the indicative list of sustainable infrastructure types, fulfill all 14 baseline requirements across four sustainability dimensions with a positive contribution to at least one, comply with risk management and minimum safeguards, and provide periodic reporting and disclosure of sustainability performance.
• The SI Label is a self-declared certification and is not automatically rated or banded. However, the framework strongly encourages external third-party independent review or second-party verification to ensure transparency and trust.
• While the label is sector-agnostic and can apply to both greenfield and brownfield assets, fossil fuel projects—specifically unabated natural gas—are unlikely to meet the baseline criteria because of a carbon emission threshold of less than 100g CO2e/kWh.
• The framework is designed to be complementary to existing reporting regimes, specifically facilitating compliance with the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) and the EU Taxonomy.
