FAST-Infra Sustainable Infrastructure Label: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

This FAQ document provides guidance on the FAST-Infra Sustainable Infrastructure Label (SI Label) Framework, detailing its development from existing global standards, the requirements for asset qualification, and the processes for reporting and verification.

• The SI Label's 14 sustainability criteria and associated indicators were developed by mapping over 25 leading market standards, frameworks, and principles. These include the EU Green Taxonomy, the IFC Performance Standards, the G20 Principles for Quality Infrastructure Investment (QII), and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
• To obtain the SI Label, an asset must meet four discrete requirements: consider the indicative list of sustainable infrastructure types, fulfill all 14 baseline requirements across four sustainability dimensions with a positive contribution to at least one criterion, comply with risk management and minimum safeguards, and provide declarations and periodic reporting of sustainability performance.
• The SI Label is self-declared and is not automatically rated, banded, or shaded. While not mandatory, the framework strongly encourages external third-party independent review or second-party verification to enhance trust and transparency.
• The label is sector-agnostic and applicable to both new (greenfield) and refinanced (brownfield) assets. However, fossil fuel projects, including unabated natural gas, are unlikely to qualify because they would likely fail the baseline threshold of <100g CO2e/kWh.
• In instances where local regulations are more stringent than the IFC Performance Standards, the local regulations must be followed to meet the SI Framework's minimum environmental and social safeguards.
