Between 2006 and 2017, the density of tractors per square kilometer increased from 0.25 to 0.35, and the gap in tractor density between high-use (75th percentile) and low-use (25th percentile) municipalities grew by approximately 20%.
- The use of fertilizers increased from 25% to 35% of farmers nationwide between 2006 and 2017, but unlike no-till farming or mechanization, this growth followed no clear spatial pattern. Significant increases were observed in diverse areas, including the Cerrado in central Mato Grosso and irrigated Caatinga areas on the borders of Bahia, Pernambuco, and Sergipe.
