IDFC Green Finance Mapping 2023

The IDFC Green Finance Mapping 2023 report details the record-high green finance commitments made by International Development Finance Club (IDFC) members in 2022, highlighting significant growth in both mitigation and adaptation funding.

• In 2022, IDFC members reported a record high of USD 288 billion in total green finance commitments, marking a 29% increase from 2021. Since the signing of the Paris Agreement in 2015, cumulative green finance commitments from these members have exceeded USD 1.5 trillion.
• Climate finance, which covers greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation and climate change adaptation, made up 98% of total green finance in 2022, totaling USD 281.9 billion. Within this, green energy and GHG mitigation were the largest category at 87% of climate finance.
• Adaptation finance reached a record high of USD 31.6 billion in 2022, an increase of 52% over the previous year, largely due to a doubling of commitments for water preservation projects.
• Other environmental funding in 2022 included USD 18.2 billion for biodiversity projects—covering areas such as wastewater treatment, agriculture, and natural resources—and USD 2 billion for other environmental objectives, including pollution projects.
