Posicionamiento común de América Latina y el Caribe sobre cambio climático y salud

A coalition of over 50 organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) demands urgent, health-centered climate action to protect vulnerable populations. • Air pollution is a critical health determinant in the region, with 99% of the population exposed and an estimated 320,000 premature deaths annually linked to this exposure.
• There is a significant gap in institutional preparedness and governance, as only 11 countries in the region have national health and climate change plans, and only 10 have conducted vulnerability assessments.
• Climate change disproportionately affects marginalized groups; for example, indigenous peoples in South America experience double the mortality rate from wildfire smoke compared to non-indigenous populations.
• International climate finance largely neglects health, with only 11.6% of Green Climate Fund investments in Latin America and the Caribbean addressing health issues.
