Climate Bonds Standard and Certification Scheme

The Climate Bonds Standard and Certification Scheme provides a globally recognised framework for labelling debt instruments, assets, and entities aligned with a 1.5°C pathway. Since 2012, it has certified over USD350bn of Use of Proceeds Green Bonds as of 30 September 2025. The scheme utilizes a network of Approved Verifiers to ensure climate integrity across various certification types, including Use of Proceeds, Asset, Entity, and Sustainability-linked debt. A 2025 update expanded the standard to include a Resilience Taxonomy for projects strengthening resilience to physical climate risks. Eligible sectors span energy, industry, transport, agrifood, and infrastructure.

• As of 30 September 2025, the Certification Scheme has certified more than USD350bn of Use of Proceeds Green Bonds since its inception in 2012.
• The scheme offers four distinct certification types: Use of Proceeds (UoP) for specific projects/activities, Asset certification for environmental credentials, Entity certification for non-financial corporates with aligned targets or transition plans, and Sustainability-linked debt (SLDs) for financing transitions or predefined performance targets.
• A 2025 update to the Standard introduced the Climate Bonds Resilience Taxonomy, which allows for the certification of investments that support adaptation, climate-proofing of assets, and resilience to physical climate risks alongside emissions reduction.
• Certification is based on science-based criteria across multiple sectors, including Energy (e.g., Solar, Wind, Nuclear), Industry (e.g., Steel, Cement, Hydrogen), Transport (Land and Shipping), Agrifood and Land Use, and other infrastructure like Buildings, Waste, and Water.
