Declaración sobre residuos que contienen nanomateriales

This statement, signed by various civil society organizations, calls for a precautionary approach to managing waste containing manufactured nanomaterials (NM) to prevent adverse effects on human health and the environment.

• The document advocates for the development of safe recycling and disposal technologies that ensure the immobilization or environmentally safe elimination of NM. It also suggests that public funding for nanotechnology research and development should require waste reduction at the source as a standard requirement.
• The signatories urge innovators to use the advanced properties of nanomaterials to support the economy without creating new risks, such as using functional materials to make the repair, remanufacturing, and recycling of other products more viable.
