A letter from the South African Department of Environmental Affairs to Eskom regarding the Medupi Power Station's application for postponement of compliance with the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act 39 of 2004 §21 minimum emission standards.

• The National Air Quality Officer granted a postponement for the Medupi Power Station to comply with the minimum emission standard for new plant regarding SO2. The postponement is effective from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2025, with an emission limit of 3500mg/Nm3 during this period, followed by a compliance limit of 500mg/Nm3 starting 01 April 2025.
• No decision was made regarding PM (Particulate Matter) or NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) because no applications were submitted for those pollutants. Consequently, the requirement to comply with minimum emission standards for existing plant remains in effect for these categories.
