A 2015 letter from the South African Department of Environmental Affairs to Eskom regarding the Arnot Power Station's application for postponement of compliance with the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act 39 of 2004 minimum emission standards.

• The National Air Quality Officer granted a postponement for the Arnot Power Station to comply with minimum emission standards for new plant from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2025, with a limit of 2500mg/Nm3, based on expected emissions related to fuel sulphur content.
• A postponement of compliance with minimum emission standards for existing plants was granted for the period from 01 April 2015 to 31 March 2020, with a limit of 1200mg/Nm3.
• The Arnot Power Station is scheduled for decommissioning between 2021 and 2029, based on a 50-year life span. Additionally, the facility is required to submit a definite offset implementation plan by 31 March 2016 to reduce PM pollution in the ambient/receiving environment.
