Advancing gender-equitable and socially-inclusive climate-resilient development

This fact sheet outlines the goals and approach of the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) for the period 2022–27. CDKN is a global Southern-led network that aims to advance gender-equitable and socially-inclusive climate-resilient development by mobilizing knowledge, capacity, and Southern leadership to support locally-led climate action.

• Between 2022 and 2027, CDKN will focus on accelerating locally-led, financed, and ecosystem-based climate action. This effort specifically aims to strengthen the climate leadership and voice of disadvantaged groups, including women, children, elderly people, Indigenous Peoples, migrants, displaced people, people with differing abilities, and those living in informal settlements.
• CDKN has identified three priority action areas for its implementation: the integration of social inclusion and gender equality into climate practice and policy, the facilitation of inclusive finance for locally-led action, and the implementation of effective and just ecosystem-based adaptation.
• The CDKN approach to 'knowledge-into-action' involves weaving together scientific, local, and Indigenous knowledge to co-create solutions. The strategy emphasizes Southern and community leadership, collaboration across sectors to achieve systemic change, and the mobilization of capacity within individuals and institutions in the global South.
• CDKN is a network founded in 2010 and is managed by SouthSouthNorth. It is implemented through partnerships with ICLEI South Asia and Fundación Futuro Latinoamericano (FFLA), and is co-funded by Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands via the Step Change Initiative.
