This 2012 CDKN fact sheet details technical assistance provided to Bangladesh to lead international climate negotiations on 'Loss and Damage' and the development of a participatory M&E tool for community-based adaptation that has since been replicated in Africa.

• CDKN supported the Government of Bangladesh in advancing the issue of 'Loss and Damage' within UNFCCC negotiations. This effort involved using local case studies to influence regional and global debates, contributing to official UNFCCC meetings, and creating a cadre of informed government officials. By COP 18, 'Loss and Damage' was included in an international legal document and industrialised countries made funding pledges.
• The 'Action-Research on Community Based Adaptation Bangladesh' (ARCAB) project, running from July 2011 to October 2012, developed a participatory monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tool for community adaptation initiatives. This tool has been scaled up internationally, with adoption by Save the Children for projects in Somalia, Somaliland, and Ethiopia, as well as integration into the Africa Climate Change Resilience Alliance (ACCRA) logical framework.
