CCORAL Caribbean Climate Online Risk and Adaptation TooL Fact Sheet

The CCORAL (Caribbean Climate Online Risk and Adaptation TooL) is a web-based support system designed to integrate climate resilience into decision-making processes across the Caribbean. Developed by the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre with support from the Climate Development and Knowledge Network and the UK Department for International Development, the tool aims to embed a risk management ethic in decision-making to support climate-compatible development.

• CCORAL is an online risk management tool developed to help government officials and other organizations—including NGOs, CSOs, the private sector, and research institutions—integrate climate resilience into standard decision-making processes without requiring the user to be a climate change expert.
• The tool was created as part of the Caribbean Risk Management Project, which is being implemented in three phases: the development of the web-based tool (Phase 1), in-depth training for country-level decision-makers (Phase 2), and detailed risk assessments in selected countries (Phase 3).
• CCORAL's development responds to the Regional Framework for Achieving Development Resilient to Climate Change and the Implementation Plan (IP), both endorsed by CARICOM Heads in 2009 and 2012. The tool's framework resulted from consultations with regional stakeholders across four countries: Belize, Suriname, Barbados, and Jamaica.
• The primary objective of CCORAL is to support climate-compatible development in the Caribbean by embedding climate considerations and a risk management ethic into decision-making, facilitating 'no-regret' actions and flexible solutions.
