Latin America and the Caribbean in a future high ambition deal

This policy brief, produced by Energeia and supported by CDKN and Fundacion Futuro LatinoAmericano, analyzes the outcomes of the COP17 meeting in Durban (December 2011) and the resulting Durban Platform for Enhanced Action, focusing on the role and future strategy of Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries.

• To ensure a high-ambition outcome from the Durban Platform, the brief recommends that Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries act collectively to shape a bold climate narrative, engage in informal exchanges with Africa and Asia to identify convergence and divergence on milestones, and improve the communication of their low carbon and climate resilient successes.
• LAC countries are encouraged to further develop national dialogues that connect climate mitigation and resilience planning to specific national interests, including trade, infrastructure, and food security.
