Bending the Climate Curve

The Clean Air Task Force (CATF) aims to reduce anthropogenic methane emissions from agriculture, fossil fuels, and waste to slow global warming. The strategy focuses on driving global action via policy and markets, developing cross-cutting capacity for funding and research, and strengthening multilateral commitments like the Global Methane Pledge. CATF seeks $25.5 million over three years to expand its technical, policy, and communications teams to implement these goals.

• Anthropogenic methane emissions from the agriculture, fossil fuels, and waste sectors could be reduced by 45% within the current decade using available measures, which would avoid up to 0.3 degrees Celsius of global warming by the 2040s.
• Reducing methane emissions provides significant public health and economic benefits, including the prevention of 255,000 pollution-related deaths, 775,000 asthma-related hospital visits, 26 million tons of crop losses, and 73 billion lost work hours due to heat exposure.
• CATF's strategic objectives include advocating for enforceable regulations, facilitating funding for the global south, and supporting the Global Methane Pledge, which currently has more than 150 participating countries.
• CATF has provided technical expertise that contributed to the development of methane policies in several countries, including the U.S., EU, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, and Nigeria.
