A statement from health professionals and community leaders requesting that the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) suspend financing for LNG Canada and the Coastal GasLink pipeline until an independent cumulative Health Impact Assessment (HIA) is conducted.

This document is an independent review by Dr Michael Holland and Dr Joseph Spadaro of a health impact assessment and cost-benefit analysis (CBA) conducted for the South African power utility, Eskom. The reviewers conclude that the Eskom report contains significant methodological errors and biases that lead to a substantial underestimation of the health benefits of pollution controls. They calculate that the benefits of action would actually exceed costs by a factor of 5 or more, which reverses the conclusions of the original Eskom CBA.

The Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) wrote to federal ministers in May 2017 urging the integration of Health Impact Assessments (HIAs) into all federal Environmental Assessment (EA) processes. The organization argues that human health is fundamentally underpinned by the environment and that resource and energy development projects must explicitly evaluate health outcomes, particularly for vulnerable populations and Indigenous Peoples.

The Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) and other health organizations advocate for the integration of comprehensive human health impact assessments into Canada's federal environmental assessment processes to better address the link between ecological health and human wellness.
