AAC Water Infographic

This fact sheet from the World Resources Institute outlines seven enabling principles for achieving water security and climate-resilient development, based on the IPCC Working Group II 2022 report, and introduces the Adaptation Action Coalition (AAC).

• The IPCC Working Group II 2022 report identifies seven enabling principles for achieving water security and sustainable, climate-resilient development through systems transitions: gender, equity and social justice; inclusion of Indigenous and local knowledge; participative, cooperative and bottom-up engagement; appropriate technologies; adequate and appropriate finance; water governance; and strong political support.
• Effective water adaptation is hindered by policy and regulatory failures, despite scientific evidence of climate change's impact on water resources. International legislation and donors are identified as potential means to help governments remove implementation barriers.
• Climate change impacts are primarily experienced through the water cycle, manifesting as more frequent and intense storms, droughts, and coastal and urban flooding, which threaten political stability, food security, and health.
• The Adaptation Action Coalition (AAC) is a state-led group consisting of 40 or more member countries aiming to achieve a climate-resilient world by 2030.
