Bottom-up Climate Finance Requirements Tracker: Data and Methodology

This technical note describes the data and methodology for the Climate Finance Requirements Tracker, a tool developed by the World Resources Institute (WRI) to monitor climate finance needs as stated in countries' nationally determined contributions (NDCs).

• Since 2021, the World Resources Institute (WRI) has systematically tracked quantitative climate finance data from all rounds of NDCs, covering both mitigation and adaptation requirements. The tracking distinguishes between funding expected from international sources and funding anticipated to be met through domestic finance.
• The World Resources Institute (WRI) has compiled data from all available NDC submissions regarding the projected and current economic impacts of climate-related loss and damage.
• The Climate Finance Requirements Tracker, available on Climate Watch, is intended to provide a consolidated quantitative view of finance needs to assist policymakers, countries, and finance practitioners in improving climate finance strategies, mobilizing resources, and strengthening climate planning.
