As Climate Negotiations Wrap Up in Bonn, We Need “an All-Out Sprint” to Paris

A statement from Jennifer Morgan of the World Resources Institute regarding the conclusion of climate negotiations in Bonn, Germany, and the necessary momentum required leading up to COP21 in Paris.

• Negotiators in Bonn made significant progress on the draft agreement, particularly regarding mitigation, transparency, long-term goals, and a ratchet mechanism, although fundamental differences persist concerning finance and adaptation.
• More than 150 countries have submitted national climate plans, but there is a remaining need to establish the rules and norms required to maximize the impact of these plans.
• The Bonn meetings represent the final official round of negotiations before the COP21 international climate conference in Paris in December.
