Join the Powering Past Coal Alliance

The We Mean Business coalition is calling for private sector companies to sign the Powering Past Coal Alliance declaration, joining over 25 countries, states, and regions in accelerating the phase-out of traditional coal power. The coalition emphasizes that coal plants produce nearly 40% of global electricity and are a primary driver of climate change and negative health effects. The document advocates for a 'just transition' to clean energy to help limit global temperature increases to well below 2°C, and preferably 1.5°C, urging companies to sign the declaration before the One Planet Summit on December 12, 2017.

• The Powering Past Coal Alliance, announced at COP23 by the UK, Canada, and other nations and regions, aims to accelerate clean growth and climate protection by rapidly phasing out traditional coal power.
• Coal-fired power plants generate nearly 40% of the world's electricity, contributing significantly to climate change and adverse health outcomes.
• Phasing out traditional coal power is identified as a critical step for governments and companies to meet the Paris Agreement goals of keeping global temperature increases well below 2°C and pursuing a limit of 1.5°C.
