Action Agenda to Accelerate the Low-Carbon Transition

The We Mean Business coalition advocates for the use of the Global Climate Action Agenda and Technical Expert Meetings (TEMs) to break down barriers to low-carbon transition before 2020. The coalition highlights its role in facilitating over 1,000 climate commitments from businesses and investors and promoting the RE100 initiative to help companies procure 100% renewable energy.

• The Global Climate Action Agenda (Action Agenda) is designed to speed up climate action before 2020 and provide a formal mechanism for non-state actors—including cities, regions, organizations, and the private sector—to participate in climate negotiations and address barriers to mitigation and adaptation.
• The We Mean Business (WMB) coalition has facilitated more than 1,000 climate commitments from investors and businesses via its Action Framework and has utilized Technical Examination Processes (TEPs) and Technical Expert Meetings (TEMs) to support the RE100 initiative's goal of 100% renewable energy procurement.
• To improve the effectiveness of Technical Expert Meetings (TEMs), the author recommends in-depth discussions with relevant individuals, utilizing venues outside the UNFCCC such as the Clean Energy Ministerial, receiving clear political direction from High-Level Champions, and appointing permanent facilitators for continuity.
