CEO Climate Alliance to world leaders: We support you in taking decisive climate steps at COP26

More than 90 CEOs from multinational organizations, representing over 8 million employees, have pledged to reduce annual emissions by over 1Gt by 2030. In an open letter to COP26 leaders, they call for 1.5°C-aligned Nationally Determined Contributions, the elimination of fossil fuel subsidies, and the establishment of global carbon pricing mechanisms to facilitate a just transition and the scaling of low-carbon technologies.

• More than 90 CEOs of large multinational organizations, members of the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders, have committed to reducing annual emissions by more than 1Gt by 2030, provided world leaders agree on a 1.5° pathway at COP26.
• The Alliance identifies a gap between national net-zero commitments and actual policy implementation, noting that while governments representing over 60% of global greenhouse gas emissions have net-zero goals, only 12% of emissions are covered by sector-specific regulations and policies.
• The Alliance calls on governments to publish Nationally Determined Contributions aligned with 1.5°C that aim to halve global emissions by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2050, while ensuring developed nations meet or exceed the $100B commitment to support developing countries.
• To accelerate the transition, the Alliance recommends three primary government actions: eliminating fossil fuel subsidies and implementing carbon pricing to make low-carbon technologies competitive; incentivizing first-movers through harmonized regulations and public procurement; and investing in climate adaptation for infrastructure, cities, and food production.
