Considerations for ensuring protection of human health from plastic pollution in the future treaty

This briefing note provides guidance for the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5.2) on integrating human health protection into a future international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution.

• The resumed fifth session of negotiations for an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, held in Geneva from 5 to 14 August 2025, is identified as a critical opportunity to establish the protection of the environment and human health as a treaty objective.
