• The statement emphasizes the need to eliminate subsidies for illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, and to regulate subsidies that cause overcapacity and overfishing, while maintaining a focus on developmental needs.
• The supporting WTO members view a comprehensive agreement as essential for protecting ocean health, the livelihoods of fisherfolk, and supporting communities, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goal target 14.6.
• The signatory members expressed support for the WTO Fisheries Funding Mechanism and requested that it become operational once the Agreement enters into force.
