TESS issues statement at WTO Dialogue on Plastics Pollution plenary meeting

TESS issued a statement following the WTO Dialogue on Plastics Pollution (DPP) Plenary meeting on 26 January 2024, expressing support for the finalized ministerial statement for the Thirteenth WTO Ministerial Conference (MC13).

• TESS views the finalized revised ministerial statement for MC13 and its attached factual list of compilations as a positive step that reflects a spirit of compromise and balances the views of DPP members and stakeholders.
• The DPP process is seen as a way to complement the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) process for an international legally binding instrument, specifically by supporting the UNEA resolution's call for voluntary measures to combat plastic pollution while INC negotiations continue.
• TESS encourages DPP members to update their workplan after MC13 to include focused discussions on issues of interest to developing countries, least developed countries, and small-island developing states, aiming for concrete outcomes by MC14.
