MEKONG THOUGHT LEADERSHIP AND THINK TANKS NETWORK

The Mekong Thought Leadership and Think Tanks Network is a 3-year program supported by the Australian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Led by the Stockholm Environment Institute - Asia Centre, the program aims to develop evidence-based solutions for water, energy, and development challenges in the Mekong Region to improve policy and practice for vulnerable and marginalized communities.

• The program's long-term goal is to improve water and energy security, as well as climate change adaptation and mitigation, within the Mekong Subregion, specifically targeting marginalized, vulnerable, and at-risk communities.
• The program seeks to achieve three primary objectives: strengthening the role of nationalS national and regional knowledge-based policy influence organisations (KBPIOs) in policy processes regarding water, energy, and climate; enhancing KBPIO capabilities in inclusive knowledge co-production; and building networking capacity and professional skills for young professionals in research and policy engagement.
• The program is managed by a consortium of 25 organisations, including eight core members: Stockholm Environment Institute - Asia Centre (Lead), Unit for Social and Environmental Research (Chiang Mai University), Centre for Change Governance (University of Canberra), Cambodia Research and Development Institute, Faculty of Engineering (National University of Laos), Thailand Environment Institute, Institute of Policy and Management, and the International Water Centre Alumni Network.
• The program funds 'Flagship Studies' with grants up to AUD 250,000 over 1.5 years and 'Rapid Response Projects' with grants up to AUD 50,000 over 1 year. Flagship studies include research on transboundary water-related disaster risks in Lao PDR and Thailand, and urban heat resilience in Thailand and Vietnam.
