Water Innovation for Circularity and Enhanced Resilience (WICER)

The WICER project addresses Iraq's water security challenges caused by climate change, conflict, and environmental degradation. It employs three workstreams: resilient water management in the Al-Udhym basin, market-based urban circularity for sanitation and resource recovery, and the exploration of rural circularity through nature-based solutions. The project aims to build local capacity and develop viable business models and policies to ensure long-term water resilience.

• The WICER project is structured around three synergetic workstreams: Resilient Water Management, Market-Based Urban Circularity Solutions, and Exploring Rural Circularity. These include developing a scenario-based water resource planning model for the Al-Udhym basin, creating business models for urban sanitation and resource recovery, and documenting good practices in rural waste management.
• The project intends to achieve immediate capacity enhancement in water planning, urban sanitation, and rural circularity, leading to long-term outcomes such as the implementation of resilient water management policies, the creation of viable urban resource recovery businesses, and the scaling of decentralized rural circularity options.
