Reporte Local Voluntario 2022 Objetivos de desarrollo sostenible Pereira (Risaralda, Colombia)

The 2022 Voluntary Local Report (VLR) for Pereira, Colombia, details the city's efforts to localize the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. • To advance SDG 4 (Quality Education), Pereira has implemented several initiatives, including the 'Círculo virtuoso' project, which benefited over 8,900 people by 2020, and the 'La U en tu colegio' program for dual professional and high school certification.
• Regarding SDG 5 (Gender Equality), the city created the Public Policy for Sexual Diversity in 2021 and the Public Policy for Gender Equality. Data indicates that over 70% of people identifying as LGBTIQ+ in the city have experienced psychological distress due to discrimination.
• For SDG 15 (Life on Land), approximately 40% of Pereira's territory is designated as environmental protection soil, with 26% belonging to the national system of protected areas.
• The REDD+ project in the Otún River basin aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by preventing unplanned deforestation in 5,602.74 hectares of forest between 2015 and 2045, with a target reduction of 445,952 tCO2e.
• A significant challenge for implementing SDG 15 is that municipal governments in Colombia with fewer than one million inhabitants cannot act as environmental authorities; this responsibility falls to the Regional Autonomous Corporations (CAR), specifically CARDER in Risaralda.
• To support SDG 17 (Partnerships), the city launched the 'Pereira Territorio Sostenible' platform, a multi-institutional collaboration between SEI, IISD, and Pereira Cómo Vamos to monitor and report local SDG progress.
• Pereira has expanded its international cooperation by joining the Mercociudades network in 2020 and establishing a south-south cooperation project with Vietnam to share knowledge on community tourism.
